One of the most talented and intellectual artists in the industry. Born in Massillon, OH as Kyle Myricks, but goes by his stage name Stalley, one of hip hop's most influential artists. On Sway in the Morning, he opened up on the meaning behind his most recent album Reflection of Self. Talking about his struggles with depression and how he reflected on the past with things slowing him down. When asked what are the things that slowed him down as an artist and person he said, “The music for me is more spiritual now. If it doesn’t move me to move other people then I cant do it. Sometimes you’re rapping to an audience that isn’t you’re audience. You’re trying to create something that isn’t you. Now I’m rapping for myself and those that are like-minded as well.”
It was the year 2011 when I first came across Stalley. He had a song called Lincoln Way Nights ft. Rick Ross. The Ohio native was making his presence known under the label. He was, featured on one of my favorite collaborations Power Circle on the MMG Self Made Vol 2 album with some of the dopest artists. But even before signing his deal with MMG. Stalley knew he was going to be a success “When Ross flew me out to Texas to ink the deal. I told myself if I signed with him or not that I will still be successful”. Since he went independent that mindset remains. In an interview with Metro, he told a story about a guy, he met backstage on tour with Kendrick Lamar. He explained, “I was doing a show in Phoenix, AZ. This guy ran backstage to tell me how my song GODS Child stopped him from committing suicide”. On the Sway show, he said, “I was giving the gift as an artist to inspire and help people grow. That’s what music did for me.” Down below are some of my favorite projects.
