The man himself born in New Orleans, La, as Shante Scott Franklin, but goes by his stage name Curren$y or Spitta and is the underground most dominant and consistent artist. Back in 2015, Curren$y was interviewed with “Breakfast Club” speaking on his come up with his struggles, meeting Wiz Khalifa, bouncing from labels, and debuting his album at the time Canal Street Confidential. In the interview, he spoke about how he was under Master P and Birdman, “If you look at it like this, it was only two major labels in my city, but I was on both of them. So that was a good thing it was no problems between the two.” He brought up being signed to Young Money, and why he left “I had just reached out to Wayne after leaving No Limit about doing a record. He said, well why don’t you come to Miami I’m about to start my own thing. Right, when it was getting all set up, I saw what it was, and it just wasn’t for me.”

Since the 504 Boyz and Cash Money era, I have been a fan of Curren$y for as long as I can remember. The very first song I heard Curren$y on was “Grown Man” off the Carter 2 album. He was also featured on the “Da Drought 3” mixtape with Wayne and on “Where the Cash At.” But in the interview, he was asked by Charlamagne, how he and Wiz met “We was broke man. We had to figure out how to eat and pay for the studio sessions. We went through a lot of shi% to make How Fly. So once everybody reacted to it and was happy with it, we were like that’s it. Once things started to click, we have been cool ever since.” Wayne, in my opinion, believed in Curren$y potential. We never really saw any projects from him being on different labels. But Wayne gave him that opportunity. But it goes back to what I mentioned earlier. Doing music, he wanted to do and not what others are doing. After leaving all the labels, Curren$y soaked up a lot of knowledge before going independent. Since finding Jet Life Records in 2011, Curren$y owns a few businesses, including his Jet Life Clothing store and two restaurants. Being independent Curren$y worked with some of hip hop’s best artists and producers. I’m even happier he went independent because he would have never met Wiz and gave us How Fly, which gave him recognition in 2009. Curren$y since then dropped two projects this year Back at Bernies and The Tonite Show With Curren$y. With numerous projects, he’s released over the years. Down below are my top 5 favorites (Drive In Theatre is definitely my favorite out the pack)

Verde Terrace (2011)

More Saturday Night Car Tunes (2014)

Carrollton Heist (2016)

The Drive-In Theatre (2014)

New Jet City (2013)
